Here is a list of top trends for the fall/winter season. Get ready for colour, texture, and glitz!

1. bright, bold colours

Last summer’s bright colour palette will continue in the fall and winter seasons this year. Yellow, orange, pink, cobalt blue, teal, deep purple, and crimson. Combine these colours with gray, classic black, or chocolate brown. If you’re feeling particularily fashion forward, try a complete outfit in a single bright colour. Coloured trousers also get a thumbs up.

2. python prints

Snake prints are the new leopard print this season. Not only can you find it in accessories, but practically everything: coats, skirts, boots, handbags, jewellery, dresses, etc. A little wild? Yes, of course. Please note, only wear one snake print per outfit.

3. seasonal shoes

Don’t throw out those high boots just yet! High boots (including over knee boots) continue to be a great asset for your wardrobe this season. You will also notice shoes with ankle straps, platform sandals, and a feminine version of a classic loafer with a high-heel or wedge.

4. polka-dots

This season you may “spot” a new polka-dot trend. Look for it on skirts, dresses, shirts, and cardigans – from micro-dots to supersized dots. If you choose to wear a very large polka-dot print best not to mix it with any other dot prints.

5. prints, plaid & stripes

Say hello to wide variety of dramatic pattern choices this season: abstract patterns, graphic stripes, geometric patterns, and yes, even plaid. Go ahead and wear mixed prints in the same outfit, but be sure to keep all pieces in the same hue.

6. leather

You’ll see it in skirts, trousers, suits, dresses, overalls, and jackets. The skirts are particularily chic this year including A-line, pencil, and pleated options. Leather will continue to be one of your fashion staples!

7. texture for everyone

This year’s runways have seen velvet, lace, and sheen. Velvet is a luxurious fabric which should be used to acheive a tailored look. Lace is a delicate fabric intended to add detail and finesse. Sheen includes any fabric that is glossy or shiny – use this texture to add dimension to your outfits.

8. accessories

Bows and scarves are still with us this season. The scarves are made of lighter fabrics and may be long enough to reach your knees. Accessories made with feathers, beading, sequins, and lace appliqués are seasonal favourites – just what you need to add a little something to any ensemble!

9. other items worth mentioning

  • capes and ponchos
  • long jackets and maxi coats
  • high-waisted trousers
  • long and lean pantsuits (try one in a rich cognac or camel colour)
  • crisp oxford shirts and feminine bow blouses
  • portfolio bags and large clutches

Don’t always try to be too beautiful on the outside; but also on the inside. Because being fake isn’t pretty. Being you is.
